Our Review
There is a certain incongruous charm when children sing adult songs, such as My Grown-Up Christmas List. The soloist on this piece is, I presume (because of the maturity of the voice), 16-year-old Amanda Ault, so maximum irony is not quite achieved. Nevertheless, it is a strange effect.
The Ault Sisters, though still technically a children's act (Alicia and Alanna are 14 and 12, respectively), sing in an adult style, if not completely in an adult register. They offer pleasing and well-schooled vocal harmonies, the sort of harmonies one rarely hears except in sister acts, that certain naturalness peculiar to the blending of sibling voices.
Their voices are simply accompanied, by A. Dale Wood or James Muratori on piano, and yet their sound seems to require little else. Their performances are pitch-perfect, if a bit formal. Particularly for people their age, I was hoping they would relax just a bit for some of the more light-hearted fare. But that's a petty complaint about a CD that leaves very little to complain about.
Christmas Feelings will be well-received by lovers of pop children's music and formal choralistas alike.
