I'll bet when the Calvarymen sent me A Christmas Gift they weren't thinking I'd take a whole year to stick it on the iPod. Well, timing is everything, and I listen a lot better in early October than in mid-December, so I am just getting around to giving the fellows a shout out.

The Calvarymen are a gospel quartet from Michigan, formed in 1956. The current line-up features tenor Dave Price, Jr., lead vocalist Barry Maust, baritone Mark Jacoby, and bass Darrell Young. A Christmas Gift is performed in an exuberant gospel style, sounding not unlike such bands as The Statler Brothers. The set consists primarily of sacred carols, as one might expect, but there are also several popular tunes, most notably White Christmas and Medley of White.

I enjoyed The Calvarymen's enthusiastic performance, their gospel harmonizing, and their old-fashioned Merry Christmas From The Calvarymen Christmas card signature at the end. Gospel listeners won't want to miss A Christmas Gift.
