Our Review

Legends in Hawaii, the award-winning Brothers Cazimero have made an indelible imprint on the Hawaiian music industry with more than 30 years of showmanship. On Caz Christmas, brothers Robert and Roland bring soft island breezes and stylish hula dancing to the holiday context, and the results are entertaining, mellow and fun. It's not hard to see how these gentlemen developed their reputation as consummate professionals; they deliver this album as a private concert just for you. The singing style is warm, intimate and cheery, and you certainly get the sense that these brothers genuinely enjoy every moment. Although the album's liner notes do not provide much information, the Brothers Cazimero typically accompany their vocals with two traditional instruments, Robert's acoustic bass and Roland's twelve-string guitar, and that seems to be the case on many numbers here.

Caz Christmas is a slick album with comfortable vocal duets and true island magic. The 14 tracks include a few standards, some Hawaiian favorites, and three Cazimero originals. For me, the best cut is Up on the Housetop which includes smart snippets of the Drifters' classic 1963 hit, Up on the Roof. The two numbers blend seamlessly, and the tenor vocals are extremely sweet. Also noteworthy are the delicately-flowing, easy-listening harmonies in Snowfall (again, amazingly pure tenor highlights), Randy Newman's melancholy Feels Like Home, and the luau-tinged Jingle Bell Rock that closes the album.

I love traveling through the United States, and there is only one state I have not yet explored. You guessed it--Hawaii. With Caz Christmas, the Brothers Cazimero have given me a musical ticket to that paradise destination for the holidays. Aloha!
