Our Review
Although I received few new children's Christmas CDs this year, A Classical Kids Christmas would have stood out in whatever company it appeared in. The latest product of the Ontario-based Children's Group, A Classical Kids Christmas is both entertaining and educational. Telling the Christmas story through the device of a Christmas pageant, it takes the trouble to really tell the story, providing facts and background about the story of the birth of Christ, as well as explaining Christmas traditions from around the world. Embedded within the telling are over 30 carols and holiday songs.
Written and produced by Susan Hammond, A Classical Kid's Christmas pays homage to high art without itself being high-brow. The Christmas story is fascinating and timeless, and Ms. Hammond's production succeeds through its entertaining, yet information-intensive telling.
