Our Review
I don't know where to begin to praise Christmas in Dallas. Shall I start with the crisp new arrangements by Christina Harmon? That she imagined blending Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring with The First Noel is enough to impress me, but experience exceeds imagination. Should I instead begin by describing the rich, emotion-laden sounds achieved here with the mixture of organ, trumpet and french horn? Using these instruments, Harmon has created a sound that positively takes my breath away in What Child Is This. Perhaps I should commence my review by commenting on the individual performances.... The performers are a tremendously accomplished group, and each brings tremendous technical proficiency and showmanship to this CD.
I found the entire effort to be remarkable, from beginning to end. I enjoyed the inspired arrangements, the finely articulated individual performances, and the many fine selections, some of which were quite unexpected. This is the finest hour of classically arranged Christmas music you are likely to find this year.
