Our Review
David Young's A Christmas I'll Remember may be his best holiday recording yet. In the past--and I don't have time right now to go back and give another listen--I remember his music to be flute-centric new age, the sort of arrangements we critical types sometimes call ethereal. A Christmas I'll Remember is anything but. Eclectic by its nature, it features enough electric guitar riffs to say it actually rocks. Sure, Young is featured prominently on flute, but this music rocks all over.
Among my favorites--and there were several--were Joy To The World, with its power rock chords, and Little Drummer Boy, full of new age instrumentalia.
I wish I could wallow in this CD for longer, but it is not to be, at least not today. But I can say without equivocation this is David Young's most creative and varied holiday CD yet. Its genre-crossing appeal should make it a sweet addition not only to celtic and new age listeners but to fans of soft, accessible rock and roll as well.
