Our Review

Voiceover mega-talent David Jeremiah's philosophy for Simply Christmas was to showcase the holiday's greatest music in a simple format: just his voice and one player. I'm with you, David. Lavishly orchestrated Christmas productions have their place, but I almost always prefer the straightforward, minimalist approach. Here, each track features just one instrument (guitar, piano, or bass) and Jeremiah's excellent voice. That's more than enough.

This little gem is a pop/jazz delight. It's all about "the voice," and Jeremiah has extraordinary pipes. His vocals are warm, emotional, clean, and effortless--with just the right raspy edge to provide character. Very, very nice. He wisely mixes the sacred and secular, the contemporary and classic, into a well-executed package that should reach out effectively to diverse audiences.

I enjoyed every cut on this album. Even Come Thou Long Expected Jesus, which often sounds stiff and stuffy, has a vibrant pulse here. I adore songs with a brilliant bass foundation, and this makes Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas extra-fine. Other favorites include Jeremiah's exquisite, textured rendition of Ave Maria, his jazzy vocal interludes on Silent Night, and his emotional closing with White Christmas.

You may think that you do not know David Jeremiah, and it is true that his name is likely unfamiliar. The voice, however, is ubiquitous, and his Simply Christmas is simply great!

When I decided to make this CD, I thought it would be a good idea to take some of the greatest Christmas music and present it without all the "fluff." One voice and one player. It is with that spirit, that I present to you: Simply Christmas.

From the Website:

If you've ever watched television or listened to the radio, you have undoubtedly heard David Jeremiah's voice every hour, every day. From NBC to The History Channel, from local infomercials to the 2004 Olympic Games, from the small screen to the silver screen, from corporate videos to video games, David's distinctive voice makes any medium virtually come alive.

Getting his start in voiceover in 1986, David was at the right place at the right time. As a talented singer/songwriter, he had landed a job singing the jingle for Red Robin restaurant commercials and, when the regular voice actor didn't show up for the commercial taping, the producer asked David to fill in. The rest, as they say, is voiceover history.

Since then, David has become one of the most sought-after voices in the industry for some of the world's best known companies, such as eHarmony, Craftsman Tools, NBC, ABC, CBS, TBS, Diet Coke, American Airlines, Sears, Wal-Mart...and the client list goes on, including many Fortune 500 companies who use David's voice in corporate videos or advertisements.
