Our Review
I have to believe a playful spirit is behind the music I am hearing on Eclectic Chameleon's Christmas from Tomorrow. It is all so tightly woven, and yet woven completely of non-sequiturs. C. A. Lind is true to the spirit of Christmas and at the same time possessed of the spirit of Santa's most mischievious elf. Did I just hear a calliope playing Pat-a-Pan?
I am reminded of the Firesign Theatre, the comedy troupe that turned mixing and layering of non-sequiturs into a genre unrivaled in their day. Mr. Lind seems capable of doing the same with his computer. His foundation is a maddeningly complex set of rhythms, underlying a structure of fantastic arrangements of instruments and styles--an eclectic chameleon.
This record (playing time 72 minutes), and its sequal A Joyous Christmas, make a fine set of records for spending an enchanted evening trimming the tree with one's zany college chums or chumettes.
I have a lot more records to listen to before Christmas, but I don't want to take these two records out of the changer!
