Our Review

There was an unusual richness to the arrangements on Lance Gibbon's Christmas. A bit too bold and cinematic to be called New Age, it might be better categorized as pop electronica. I might even characterize Gibbon's work as "feel good" seasonal music.

There is lot to be said for cool, crisp, and clean electronic arrangements. I like the thoughtful and unpretentious instrumental blend, even early in the Christmas season.

Gibbon performs a nice set of traditional favorites. I particularly liked the audacious Hark the Herald Angels Sing, and the bold, upbeat Little Drummer Boy. At times, I thought I heard the influence of John Williams, which was enjoyable, too.

Speaking its truth without being overbearing, this record works either in foreground or background.
