Our Review
Harp, violin, and flute join to create holiday music that is gentle and rapturous. Glissandi (Deborah Braun on harp, her husband David on violin, and Doug Miller on various flutes) is a tight-knit, professional ensemble that plays with fine musicianship and emotive depth. On Peace, Glissandi conveys a light touch; this is the tasteful music that you put on your audio system when you want to impress dinner guests or just really need to unwind and relax before a blazing fire after a tense day.
Glissandi smartly opens the 21 selections with Huron Carol; the three instruments nicely convey the fragile and darkly mysterious air that pervades the beautiful tune. Other album favorites include the slow-paced Silent Night with its deep-throated flute melody line within a winning harp framework, and The Holly and the Ivy, where the flute and violin sweetly trade the melody back and forth.
On Peace, Glissandi's arrangements are simple, serene, and sophisticated, and the seasonal package presents itself as a well-crafted delight. If you enjoy intimate chamber music for the holidays, embrace Glissandi.
