Our Review

I found A Christmas Tapestry, Medwyn Goodall's second volume of Christmas music, to be considerably bolder than his first, the smooth, soothing Spirit of Christmas. Although he did not deviate from his wind and string instrumental format, this record felt much more energetic, possibly due to a finer articulation of the keyboards and guitar and the overall brisk tempo of the piece.

Along with his obvious mastery of several instruments, his integral arrangements are seductive and soothing. And even using modern equipment and contemporary arrangements, he still manages to capture the essentially primitive Celtic folk quality of the British Isles. This was most evident on Christmas Reel, an unusual selection announcing a stylistic foundation mostly only hinted at in the remainder of the work. I recommend A Christmas Tapestry. More than a sequal to Spirit of Christmas, I found its contained enthusiasm quite enjoyable.
