Our Review
It will be difficult to describe the majesty of Renée Hamaty's Christmas piano. Self-described grand pianist, Hamaty brings classical training and awesome mastery to the hymns and carols of Christmas. She pulls off the trick of playing our favorites the way we want to hear them and at the same time surprising us with her unique touch.
She immediately got my attention with Carol of the Bells, displaying her quick, forceful touch on the keys, and imbuing the song with an intensity I have rarely heard. She shows a much softer touch on Ave Maria, conveying reverence and warmth.
I like what she has done with O Little Town of Bethlehem, introducing it with Mills' Music Box Dancer. Similarly, I like how she has interwoven (my favorite) Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring and the traditional hymn Blessed Assurance. Hamaty has clearly thought about how she wants to give something back to Christmas.
I like her style.
