Our Review
There were several sweet tunes on this CD. And although it is billed as a Reggae offering, I enjoyed the R&B stylings at least as much. In fact, the blending of R&B sensibilities with Caribbean instruments was the main draw for me.
I particularly liked The Christmas Song, which reminded me a bit of Smokey Robinson backed by pans. On Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas Bolivar showed a mellow pop side. The Reggae eventually came to the fore on Rudolph the Reggae Reindeer, but it was Reggae with a very contemporary, accessible feel. We Wish You A' Irie Christmas, featuring hot pans and percussion, was a toe-tapping Calypso tune.
The techno-Reggae God Rest Ye Irie Gentlemen was my favorite.
This is a very upbeat and listenable record, more eclectic and varied than I expected and offering a number of pleasant little surprises.
