One doesn't really expect to see a lot of singer-songwriter credits on a pop effort such as this one. But the writing team of Brad Hatfield, Gaye Tolan Hatfield and Jeff Meegan deliver an almost entirely original album, using only a single traditional carol to reach the 12-song, 40-minute mark, a feat almost unheard of for this type of fare. Brad Hatfield's easy listening instrumentals and arrangements serve as beautiful holiday wrapping and Jeff Meegan's bell-clear pop vocals put a pretty bow on this remarkable package.

The original songs are remarkably well-written, genre-perfect easy listening standards, every one. Together on New Year's Eve, with it's thematically apropos title and tender tenor sax solo provided by Mike Monaghan, is typical. Romantic, hook-laden melodies such as this one, along with the clever, lounge-style arrangements and Meegan's honey-sweet vocals deliver warm and wonderful American pop, song after song.

Whether one is new to easy listening pop, the president of the Barry Manilow fan club, or just an aging rock music enthusiast who becomes petulant and curmudgeonly about anything that falls outside his ever-shrinking comfort zone, Jeff Meegan's original and ear-catching Season of Love should suit.
