Our Review
Vocalist Joyce Lynn definitely has the pipes to sing with the big kids, and displays her prowess on everything from old time gospel, to calypso, to contemporary pop. Lynn's Give Them Time is as spirited and inspirational as anything I've heard all year. So, in that way it is celebratory of the season in the strictest sense.
The purely Christmas fare is represented by Do You Hear What I Hear?, The Hallelujah Chorus and Silent Night. The remaining tracks are primarily contemporary Christian pop which, while appealingly rendered in their own right, might not necessarily appeal to people just wanting to roast a few chestnuts over the open fire. But that said, Lynn's brand of Christian pop is quite easy to enjoy. Her heartfelt vocals raise the roof. My favorite song on the disc was the gospel-flavored Joyful, Joyful.
Throughout the CD Lynn's voice is delicious, the arrangements are crisp and entertaining, and the production values are high. Stylistically, there are wonderful examples of both old-time-gospel and also several contemporary pop Christian arrangements. I was surprised by the number of unfamiliar songs, but if you've listened to as many renditions of Good King Wenceslas as I have, that is never a bad thing.
