Our Review

Ah, the driving beat of great dance music, bringing explosive synth excitement to holiday tunes we know and love. The Mistletoe Lounge is the newest release by BasicLUX, the folks who also brought us the remarkable Holiday Remixed, reviewed here. Like its predecessor, The Mistletoe Lounge is a heady melange of electronically-charged Christmas carols.

Although this release largely consists of groovin', big-beat instrumentals, kicky electronic vocals give holiday classics like Winter Wonderland, Santa Baby, and Silent Night a flashy and funky new look. The release even manages a few contemplative moments of rare restraint, such as Sunday People's gentle treatment of First Noel. For me, though, the vibrant snap-crackle-pop of high-energy pieces like Jingle Bells make the holidays especially bright.

The BasicLUX crowd definitely knows how to spin a holiday groove. Though a bit more low-key than Holiday Remixed, The Mistletoe Lounge is a mighty fine place to recline--or dance the night away--on a cold December evening. So grab a cold one, and kick back!
