Our Review
I am enjoying this release Hey Santa! that arrived unheralded in yesterday's mail. Mr. Vegas Man is Tom Fivenson, a performer who will, according to his Web site, "bring the Vegas experience to you." Mr. Vegas Man is also a blues-flavored ensemble who have recorded a nice EP-length set of Christmas favorites and one nifty new one, the title track Hey Santa!, penned my Mr. Vegas Man himself.
I loved the arrangements, especially the blues harmonica play of Peter Madcat Ruth. Quite frankly, from the cheesy Vegas-style cover, I wouldn't have predicted the beautifully warm and understated arrangements I would find on this fine recording. These are the essence of old-fashioned traditional Christmas songs. I've listened to the whole thing through several times now, and just can't get enough of it.
Hey Santa! is a wonderful six-pack of Christmas pop songs, including one new one. The experience only lasts twenty minutes, so enjoy it while you can, but enjoy it you will. This is recommended for all ages, especially children.
