Our Review
That strangely captivating sound I grew up identifying with the Hawaiian islands, combined with a sweet, contemporary folk sensibility. That's the sound of Na Leo Pilimehana, a trio combining the beautiful vocal harmonies of Nalani Choy, Lehua Kalima, and Angela Morales. The artists receive considerable help from their friends on this record, including Barry Flanagan's guitar, Klyde Kaimana's percussion, and original compositions by Roland Cazimero as well as by Morales, Kalima and Choi.
There's not a less-than-stellar song in this set, although the several original compositions are even more intriguing than the standards, which range from a breezy Jingle Bell Rock to Schuber's) Ave Maria with harp accompaniment by Connie Uejio.
My favorite--because I always enjoy the new and different--was Ms. Choy's What Would Christmas Be which featured vocal harmonies every bit as compelling as the best the Burns Sisters or the Roches have to offer.
