Our Review

Once you know the name of the group, you know what "Christmas Rose" is all about. One Harp and a Flute (the mother/daughter duo of Barbara Hagist and Laurie Wickenkamp) does an excellent job of setting the gentle, elegant mood for any holiday gathering. As a mom, my immediate thought was, "A mother-daughter performing duo--how wonderful!" To share that kind of connection with your daughter must be a beautiful thing indeed. Bravo!

This instrumental CD is comprehensive, providing 27 tracks, including several large medleys of multiple holiday numbers. This means that each individual number is relatively short because the overall album time is under 45 minutes. The focus is on lovely classical pieces (no "Frosty the Snowman" to be seen!), and perhaps seven numbers were totally unfamiliar to me.

Elegance really does describe this album in tone and presentation. The musicianship is outstanding, and the harp and flute work perfectly together to create a magical, bright, and pristine background for your gift-wrapping, tree-decorating or holiday meal. Everything about "Christmas Rose" is professionally executed. The technical merits are superb; both instruments are crystal-clear.

Listening to "Christmas Rose" calmed my thoughts as I moved through my otherwise hectic morning. It's good medicine for the soul. Thank you, One Harp and a Flute.
