Our Review

Just noticed this is available on Amazon, and wanted to write a few choice words: this is, to me, bar none, one of the great punk Christmas must-have titles. O Come All Ye Faithful: Rock for Choice, was aptly named to drop completely out of sight after a couple of years. Really pointy title, for the holidays, and mixed-up cover graphics. But it's better than that. Here's what you get:

Twas the Night Before Christmas, Henry Rollins version (!); I Did It for the Toys, by the Dance Hall Crashers. This is beautiful rendition of an instant classic. You aren't really a Christmas music listener if you haven't memorized this track. There's also Make It Home, by Juliana Hatfield. This is far and away her finest track on any recording, and a shame that is, too. But it was featured on some television show, if that says anything at all for its TV Christmas special teen anthem power. I think there are some others I like as well, though I haven't listened to it lately, so the rest is a crap shoot.

This is a top pick any year. And even if it weren't, I would recommend you buy it just to hear Juliana Hatfield's Make It Home. I have listened to a number of alternative compilations and this one outshines all the others by far. Recorded for charity, this record was my top pick for 1996. Listen to it and tell me you agree.

From the liner notes:

Rock for Choice was founded in the fall of 1991 by rock band L7, music journalist Sue Cummings, and national women's rights organization The Feminist Majority. Its purpose is simple -- to mobilize music fans and the music community to stand up for reproductive freedom, encourage voter registration and provide a new platform for pro-choice voices to be heard.

Rocking For Choice Means you are pro-choice -- that you believe it is a woman's right to decide for herself what to do with her body and you believe abortion should be safe, legal and accessible for all women regardless of age or income.
