Our Review

It took me a few minutes to warm up to Still Believing in Christmas, the Seasong Recording compilation of some of Nashville's biggest names. But for that matter, I thought it took a while for the recording to get warmed up, itself. But once it found its groove, this was one of the most pleasant recordings I've listened to this year.

While the set includes a number of previously released tracks (my favorite of these was Tanya Tucker's vivacious Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!, because I just love her. And did I mention I once saw Tanya Tucker at the Gregg County fair grounds when she was only thirteen years old? I just love her.) But there are other people and songs to love here, including a recording of Happy Birthday Jesus by the late, great Porter Wagoner, and a real tear-jerker, Bethlehem (which he pronounces "Beth Lee Ham", as in "Darlin', I'd like some of that Beth Lee Ham, and pass me that gravy boat, too"), by David Frizzell.

If I were going to ding this recording for anything, it is that some of these recordings are pretty low-energy. But just as I was starting to think that, there was that Let it Snow! song by Tanya Tucker, and she raised the energy level of the entire undertaking. I just love her.

Nashville country fans will love this one, especially if you miss hearing some of these artists on country radio.
