Our Review

With a son in a law school and my reviewing partner (in crime) a law professor at Hamline University, I would probably be better off leaving The LawTunes Season's Briefings to better judges. But I've never allowed a lack of authority (or knowledge) to hold me back. Though my credentials are better suited for bailiff or court reporter, I stand prepared as judge, jury, and executioner (if need be) of this clever appeal.

Actually, I think my role here as critic is not to make my own bad legal puns, but to adjudicate those submitted by The LawTunes. And adjudicate, I shall!

Season's Briefings is a lot of fun, from the first song to the last. On first look, I was afraid they were going to lose me with their incomprehensible legalese. But while on the surface this one looked as though it would be a lot of inside legal jokes in latin, it turns out that the only danger here is that my groan muscles can't hold up to challenge. And even that danger is minimal, as these songs turn out to be goodhearted and quite accessible, even to someone who has trouble obeying all the laws, not to mention understanding the nuances of the legal system. I liked all the clever lyrics, the nice pop arrangements, and the concept, generally. Having fun on Christmas is de rigueur, and the LawTunes are clearly having fun here. Aside from the title tune, I think my favorite song is There's No Billin' On Christmas. But all of these tunes have merit, and to set aside one over another would be a travesty of justice.

Okay, I've whipped out the Latin and the puns, and have offered little more than dicta. So I'll close my arguments here and render a verdict before someone declares a mistrail or petitions for a change of venue.

Somehow, early on a Monday morning in November, The LawTunes sweet, comical take on the holidays gives me hope. Summary judgment for The LawTunes!
