Our Review
Christopher Peacock's solo work is characterized by lively contemporary arrangements, wide-ranging song selections and spirited play. His unusual pacing and occasional substitution of minor keys into these well-known works often gave the music a suspenseful quality: I would find myself waiting expectantly for his next little surprise. Of course, Jingle Bells in a minor key is just how I feel sometimes, so there is a way in which such devices draw in and establish a relationship with the listener. A wink and a nod between adults, who know not only the season's joy but the entire range of emotions that fill the season.
Thus, Peacock's interpretations were in a way mature and thoughtful and at the same time fresh and new, as his arrangements are an attempt to integrate his personal themes with the traditional melodies. I thought this was particularly effective in his arrangement of We Three Kings.
His piano has a rich, sweet voice, which he often uses to infuse his work with deep sentiment. This worked well when combined with the melody of the already nostalgic White Christmas or the spiritual longing of I Wonder As I Wander.
Peacock applies a powerful emotive force on the winter season.
