Our Review
Arizona is lucky to have a choral group as sweet as The Arizona Repertory Singers. Directed by Jeffry A. Jahn, the Singers stole my heart with their singing of Ave Maria, a stirring recital all by itself. But they also gave a good acount of themselves on the title track, Sweet Was the Song, which registered very nicely to my ear. And I also liked Rise Up Shepherd and Follow, which was quite inspiring and put me in mind of a '50s era broadway musical.
The Singers play a relatively formal set, but livened things up late in the CD with P.D.Q. Bach's Throw the Yule Log On and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Yes, the Arizona Repertory Singers sing with a very sweet voice, an a capella breeze blowing off the cool mountains and across the Sonoran Desert at dusk.
