On the heels of her debut CD What's It To You? comes a Christmas single by Tiffany Milagro, the latest phenom to hit the pop scene. The single, Why Can't It Just Be Christmas? finds the young artist in good voice, with an arrangement laden with youth appeal destined to garner some buzz this holiday season. I enjoyed the song, which asks the musical question 'why do we need so much commercialization of Christmas?' Not a new question, but a good one, and one that bears repeated asking.
The song is packaged with snippets from What's It To You? I didn't listen to the snippets, because I never listen to snippets. I think the producer/promoters would have done better to include a couple of actual songs from the debut CD. A complete marketing strategy would have a free download track--one of the better tracks, probably the second featured single. This song would be given to all of the download sites and generally to anyone who will listen to it, as well as including it as a bonus track on the Christmas single. Giving away free downloads is essential, particularly for emerging artists, because they cannot count on radio play to get the word out. I have said this many times, but here's the drill: the more music you give away, the more you will sell.
On that note, here's hoping Tiffany Milagro finds success with Why Can't It Just Be Christmas? She has a beautiful voice, and it's a good song.
