Our Review

A few of the selections on Trio West Plays Holiday Songs, Vol. 2 are not Sambas, and more's the pity. I haven't heard so much good Samba music since I was drunk and listening to Beto e los Fairlanes, a century or so back. A Samba Silent Night was just what the Dr. ordered, too, I think, because I've come to hate that effing song more than most. At least give me something to make it go down easy, I say.

Trio jazz can be disappointing, or it can be good. Trio West makes it be good. This is their second holiday sleigh ride (first clue: Vol. 2), and I'm sure I must have made some references to Vince Guaraldi in my first review. Because Eldad Zvulun's piano has a distinct resemblance to Guaraldi's cool sound. Maybe a bit sweeter than ole' Vince.

Everything about Trio West Plays Holiday Songs, Vol. 2 sparkles. You'll have fun with this record, whether you are a jazz lover or not.
