Our Review

It can be fun to listen to a new age artist weave personal themes into holiday classics, especially early in the season when I am far from ready to hear the Mormon Tabernacle Choir perform the Hallelujah Chorus, accompanied by pipe organ. Wayne Gratz fits the bill nicely, making me not hate the holidays in a particularly charming way this morning. Working mostly from public domain sacred carols, his energetic fingering strikes just the right note for me. In an ample (50 minute) Christmas Remembered, Gratz pretty much runs the gamut. He saves the title track for last, a contemplative theme that merely hints at the season. Altogether an enjoyable outing, especially for so early in the season, and recommended for general listeners.
